Tulsa-Area Housing Starts Surge 33% in July, Marking Strongest Month of 2026

July sees 367 new homes started across the Tulsa area as builders respond to continued demand for new housing

The Tulsa-area housing market saw a significant increase in new home construction in July, with 367 new homes breaking ground across the region tracked by the Home Builders Association of Greater Tulsa.

July's total represents a 33.45% increase over July 2025, when 275 new homes were started, and marks the strongest month for housing starts so far in 2026.

“July’s numbers are an encouraging sign for the Tulsa-area housing market,” said Jeffrey Smith, CEO of the Home Builders Association of Greater Tulsa. “Builders are continuing to put new homes into the market, giving families more opportunities to find a home that fits their needs while helping our communities keep pace with continued housing demand.”

Broken Arrow Leads July Activity

Broken Arrow led the region with 82 new housing starts in July, followed by:

• Tulsa: 61
• Wagoner County: 52
• Tulsa County: 39
• Owasso: 39
• Rogers County: 38
• Bixby: 16
• Coweta: 14
• Sapulpa: 9

Through the end of July, 1,596 new homes have been started across the Tulsa-area communities tracked by the HBA.

New Construction Continues to Add Housing Supply

The July increase comes as housing markets nationwide continue to navigate affordability challenges, mortgage rates and limited housing options.

New home construction remains an important part of the region's housing supply, giving buyers additional choices while supporting the workers, businesses and industries that contribute to residential construction.

“Strong construction activity is good news not only for homebuyers, but for the broader economy and the businesses and workers who make homebuilding possible,” Smith said.
