Building Better Businesses by Building Stronger Connections
Professional Women in Building and Remodelers Council members come together for an honest conversation about balance, burnout and community.
Building a successful business takes more than hard work. It takes strong relationships, a supportive professional community and a willingness to make space for the people behind the business.
Recently, the Professional Women in Building (PWB) Council and Remodelers Council of the Home Builders Association of Greater Tulsa (HBA) came together for a conversation focused on an issue that affects professionals in every industry: balance and burnout.
Led by Carissa Miller, the Balance & Burnout discussion gave members an opportunity to step away from the day-to-day demands of the construction and remodeling industry and have an honest conversation about finding balance, managing stress and taking care of themselves while building successful careers and businesses.
Creating Connection Within the Construction Industry
The home building and remodeling industries are built on relationships. From builders and remodelers to designers, suppliers, subcontractors and other industry professionals, success often depends on having a strong network of people who understand the unique challenges of the business.
Events like this one provide an opportunity for HBA members to connect outside of their everyday work, share experiences and learn from one another.
For members of the Professional Women in Building Council, these connections are particularly valuable. PWB brings together women working across the residential construction industry and creates opportunities for professional development, leadership, networking and education.
The Remodelers Council provides a similar opportunity for professionals working in the remodeling industry to build relationships, share knowledge and strengthen their businesses.
Together, the two groups created a welcoming environment for meaningful conversation and connection.
The Importance of Addressing Balance and Burnout
Working in the construction and remodeling industry can be demanding. Long hours, deadlines, customer expectations and the many moving pieces involved in a project can make it difficult to step back and recharge.
The Balance & Burnout conversation served as an important reminder that professional success and personal well-being don't have to be competing goals.
Sometimes, taking care of the people behind the business is one of the most important investments a company can make.
And sometimes, finding that balance starts with simply having a conversation with people who understand what you're experiencing.
Celebrating Our Members
The gathering also provided an opportunity to celebrate one of the HBA's outstanding members.
Congratulations to Michelle Simmons, our PWB March Member of the Month!
Michelle's recognition is a reminder of the contributions individual members make to the strength and success of the HBA community. Member recognition programs like PWB's Member of the Month provide an opportunity to celebrate the professionals who show up, get involved and help make the association—and the industry—stronger.
This Is What Membership Looks Like
At the HBA of Greater Tulsa, membership is about more than a business listing or a logo on a directory.
It's about relationships, professional development, education, leadership and community.
It's about having a place where builders, remodelers, suppliers and other construction professionals can come together, learn from one another and build connections that extend beyond the workplace.
The PWB and Remodelers Council Balance & Burnout gathering was a great example of that mission in action.
We're grateful to everyone who joined us, contributed to the conversation and helped make the event such a fun and engaging gathering.
Because building better businesses starts with taking care of the people building them—and sometimes, the best thing we can build is a stronger community around us.
