Builders Continue Investing in Tulsa's Future

Builders Continue Investing in Tulsa's Future

The Tulsa area recorded 181 new housing starts in June, bringing the total number of new homes started in 2026 to 1,229 across the Tulsa region.

While the pace of residential construction remains below last year's levels, the numbers tell an encouraging story. Builders continue investing in communities throughout the region, demonstrating their commitment to meeting the housing needs of today while planning for tomorrow's growth.

Construction activity remained strong in several key markets during the first half of the year. Broken Arrow continues to lead the region with 301 housing starts, followed by Tulsa (187), Tulsa County (135) and Coweta (130). These communities, along with many others across the region, reflect the continued demand for quality housing despite ongoing affordability challenges and higher financing costs.

"While today's market presents challenges for both builders and homebuyers, the need for quality housing has not changed," said Jeffrey Smith, CEO of the Home Builders Association of Greater Tulsa. "Our members continue investing in communities across the region because expanding the housing supply is essential to supporting long-term economic growth and creating opportunities for families to achieve homeownership."

Housing starts serve as an important indicator of the region's economic health and future growth. Each new home represents an investment in the community, supporting local jobs, businesses and the families who choose to call the Tulsa area home.

The Home Builders Association of Greater Tulsa will continue to monitor residential construction activity and share monthly housing start reports as builders work to meet the housing needs of our growing region.
